What is an All on 4?
All on 4 refers to a bridge or hybrid denture (prosthesis) that is supported solely by implants. It is screwed into 4 implants in the bone. Sometimes we will use more than 4 implants so it may be called an All on 5 or 6. This bridge cannot be removed by the patient. Only your Dentist can remove it.
How do I take care of my new implant supported denture / bridge (all on 4)?
Clean the denture/bridge like you would your teeth. Brush the denture/bridge as well as your gums with a soft bristle tooth brush at least twice a day. An electric toothbrush works even better. Use a non-abrasive tooth paste. It is best when brushing your gums to angle the brush at a 45 degree angle half on the gums and half on the prosthesis. Floss under the prosthesis using floss threaders daily and finally use a waterpik to wash away any leftover debris at least once a day(medium setting usually best).
How often do I need to get a cleaning at my dental office?
You will need a cleaning of your All on 4 two to four times a year . The intervals of cleaning will be determined by your Dentist/Hygienist . The frequency will depend on if you have teeth on the other arch and how well you take care of your mouth and how fast you build up tarter.
Do you remove the prosthesis every time you do a cleaning?
Usually the prosthesis will stay in your mouth for your cleaning. We only will remove it if we are unable to clean it with it in. The American College of Prosthodontists indorses this protocol as well.
Each time you take it out the screws will need to be replaced and will add to the wear of the other parts. This will also come with additional fees averaging $300-600 to remove/replace plus a charge for each screw.
What happens if I need to repair the prosthesis?
When the prosthesis ( denture) needs to be repaired, most often it will need to be removed and sent to the lab. We will temporarily screw your healing denture in until your denture returns from the lab. Usually it will be later on the same day. You will never have to go without teeth so you can resume any of your normal activities.
Don't Forget to Floss!
Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Decay-causing bacteria can hide between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gum line.
Visit Our Office Regularly!
Take good care of your smile. Remember to visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.
Mouthwash Is Important, Too!
Brushing and flossing may not be enough. The ADA now recommends using an antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce plaque and prevent gingivitis.
